Selena Gomez shows off her surprise lob haircut with chunky gold earrings and Girl Boss blazer

Selena Gomez showed up to a special screening of “Emilia Perez” with a trendy new fall hairdo. The chop was one of the most stylish on the press tour for the Netflix musical film, which stars the rare beauty billionaire as Jessi Del Monte, the grieving wife of the film's main character, a drug cartel leader.

Last year, it seemed like every celebrity from Kim Kardashian to Emma Stone to Megan Fox was in the midst of the short-hair era. Bob haircuts were so popular, in fact, that they became a meme. Many celebrities still wear bobbed hair, including Zendaya, Hailey Bieber, and Gigi Hadid. But Selena Gomez and her super-shiny lob represent the next evolution of the trend.

Think of the lob as the bob haircut's cooler, less uptight big sister. Whereas the bob is just below the chin or over the chin, the lob is longer, from the jawline to the collarbone. In my experience, this longer alternative to the bob is perfect for those who want to change their look frequently. Even if you want to grow your hair longer, with a lob you don't have to wait at least a few months. Also, if you have your eye on the bob trend but are hesitant to take the plunge ...... If you are hesitant to take the plunge, you can try a lob without going too short.

For the screening, Gomez curled the ends of her sleek brunette lob inward, framing her face. She accessorized her look with chunky gold earrings, an oversized black blazer, a black mini dress, sheer black tights, and black pumps. The beauty mogul also appeared to be sporting a glazed nude pink naked manicure.

Strictly speaking, Gomez sported a fresh cut at the Academy Museum Gala the night before the screening. However, hairstylist Marissa Marino styled her lob a little differently for the occasion. Instead of parting her hair in the middle and curling the ends toward her face, she chose a side part with the ends turned up, reminiscent of a 1960s bubble flip. As a finishing touch, she tucked the actor's hair behind his ears, revealing silver statement earrings from Tiffany & Co. The borderline wet look perfectly complemented the rock-chic vibe of Alaia's custom blue velvet halter gown with leather bustier.

Gomez and her long bob prove that you don't have to feel limited in styling short hair. I would even venture to say that the lob is the most versatile hairstyle for women, whether you are a famous actor or an indecisive, trend-conscious public like me. Let's hope that Gomez's next attempt at an updo will emphasize this point even more.
