Zoe Kravitz slips into the fall trend, Mary Jane, with a designer loved by insiders.

Zoë Kravitz endorsed the Mary Jane trend during a recent outing in New York City, where she shared dinner at Buvette with her “Big Little Lies” co-star Shailene Woodley on October 21, where the “Blink Twice” director wore a collared white eyelet mini-dress with attached and a black cocoon coat coordinated for the occasion. She accessorized the outfit with a cherry red hobo bag and black suede mary jane flat shoes.

Both of Kravitz's investment pieces were courtesy of The Row, a label founded by the Olsen twins that Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner frequently copy and paste from the runway. But the Mary Jane revival has taken many forms since it was thrust into the limelight as part of the broader ballet core trend in 2020. It began with Sandy Liang's girlish pointe shoes and Margiela's split-toe cryptic Mary Janes, worn by Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, respectively. Later, it-girls including Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lawrence became obsessed with Miu Miu's grommet ballerinas and Alaia's silver studded flat shoes.

Of course, you don't have to pay thousands of dollars for designer shoes to find the best Mary Janes to rival Kravitz. Dolce Vita's Roslyn flats look exactly like The Row's Boheme flats, and longtime street style muse Katie Holmes adores Vivi Venezia's velvet Mary Janes. Similar options can be found for less than $500 from Tory Burch and Aeyde.

The fluid, triangular construction of Kravitz's hobo bag proved a bit difficult to replicate from other retailers. After much consideration, however, we decided that Santos by Monica's tomato red faux leather tote bag was the best substitute. Alternatively, Marge Sherwood makes an apple red grained leather shoulder bag, which is similar in size to the smallest Bindle bag.

Zoë Kravitz has a knack for making trendy items feel timeless, from the sheer LBD to the loafers to the visible crew socks. She has done it again this time with not one, but two accessories. The key, I think, lies in her carefully limited color palette. Even when the Batman star and her longtime stylist, Andrew Mukamalu, decide to experiment, she always stays grounded in her customary black and white shades. Here's a tip you can implement with or without The Row.
