Amy Adams proudly announces that she grew her own facial hair for her new role
Amy Adams is trying to put a stigma on women's facial hair.
Actress Amy Adams recently spoke to Variety magazine about her new role in the upcoming film Nightbitch, explaining, among other things, that the hair on her chin in one scene was real.
“The hair on my face is mine,” she told the reporter, “proudly.”
“I thought it was a wonderful expression of the human experience, without artifice or filter. Or tweezers!”She said.
She added: “I'm not sure how I could have done it. One day it's not growing, the next day it's like a catfish. That might put some people off."
She added: ”I'm not sure how many people would be interested in this.
Given that so many women are scrambling to get rid of facial hair, and actively embracing it in a world that still stigmatizes hair, Adams' admission feels powerful.
Because “Night Bitch” is about a “struggling housewife” who “sometimes turns into a dog,” Adams' appearance in the film is intentionally unpolished. As a result, “I've had people say, 'Oh my God, you look terrible. ' I was like, 'You do realize that's what my life looks like, right?' And I was like, 'I'm sorry,'” the star revealed.
Such a stance by Adams seems in line with the wave of tastemakers, like Pamela Anderson's no-makeup movement, who are working to subvert expectations of how women should look (Starr, with the help of her product line, Sonsie, (instead prioritizing good skin care).
As for the film, it is based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder.
The director is Marielle Heller, known for directing “Can You Ever Forgive Me” and appearing in “The Queen's Gambit” as an actress. Starring Scoot McNairy, Jessica Harper, and Zoë Chao. The film will be released on December 6.
