Is this new royal job the “perfect way” for Prince Andreou to return to the good graces of his family?
Prince Andrew's reputation within the royal family has not always been good in recent years. Thanks to his friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a sex offender, and a civil suit subsequently filed by Virginia Giuffre, a settlement was reached in 2022. The resulting underage sex scandal has forced him out of public service and stripped him of his military titles and royal patronage, but one reporter wonders if there might be a royal job out there that would be more to Andrew's liking.
On Tuesday, October 22, Daily Mail writer Richard Eden published an item in his Eden Confidential column that pondered whether the Duke of York could help his family. The columnist wrote, “Here's the perfect way for Prince Andrew, who has been out of work since giving up his royal duties five years ago, to get back into the company: Prince Charles is looking for a helicopter pilot.”
As Marie Claire reported this week, the Royal Family is currently seeking volunteers for the King's helicopter flight team, which transports members of the Royal Family on official duties throughout the UK.
Like his nephew Prince William, who worked as a search and rescue pilot before devoting himself to full-time royal duties, Andrew is also training as a helicopter pilot.
And while the public's current perception of Prince Andrew may be at an all-time low, he was seen as a hero in the 1980s, with Eden noting that the Duke of York “served bravely as a helicopter pilot and instructor during the Falklands conflict.”
Both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles have expressed concern about Prince William piloting the family in helicopters over the years, but would they expect Andrew to take on the job?"
According to the Royal Family job ad, Duke York has ”multiple He certainly has the skills required for the role, including “extensive flying experience in engine-powered helicopters. However, as Eden pointed out, one of the requirements of the position “may present a challenge.”According to the job ad, the new helicopter pilot will “bring excellent communication and interpersonal skills,” which seems to have been a concern after Prince Andreu's infamous BBC Newsnight interview.
