Why Queen Camilla Went Barefoot During Her Australian Tour

King Charles and Queen Camilla are spending a long day this week visiting Australia and Samoa, meeting thousands of fans (and getting heckled in Parliament). But as anyone who has ever regretted their shoes after a long day of walking knows, sometimes you have to throw in the towel.

Mrs. King Charles, 77, took off her pumps, went barefoot, and walked up the steps of Admiralty House at the end of a busy day in Sydney on Tuesday, October 22. Queen Camilla, holding a pair of tan pumps and an ivory scarf in one hand, walked up the stairs after what must have been an exhausting day of royal events.

Camilla usually wears comfortable, cushioned pumps by celebrity-favorite British brand Saul Bliss. According to a rep for the brand, she has worn her beloved $299 Ingrid styles more than 80 times, but on Tuesday she stepped away from her favorite shoes and learned her lesson.

After an action-packed week of engagement (and selfies), you can't blame Queen Camilla for slipping off her heels. On Tuesday, the sixth and final day in Australia, the royal family made a number of visits before leaving the sun-drenched country, even firing up the barbie to cook sausages at a casual barbecue with a community group.

However, although a local restaurant manager said the King and Queen told him they “could tell [the sausages] were good without trying them,” the couple refused to try the fruits of their labor, according to GB News.

Camilla and Charles also visited Sydney's iconic Opera House to greet the throngs of fans who had waited for hours to see the King and Queen. The couple then boarded a boat in Sydney Harbor for a Royal Australian Navy fleet review.

On October 23, the couple arrived in Samoa to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Prince Charles had announced the royal visit by performing a Samoan dance at a recent reception at Buckingham Palace.
