Anne Hathaway Endorses Kamala Harris, Sings “Somebody to Love” at Broadway for Harris Event
Anne Hathaway has officially announced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
Actress Anne Hathaway showed up at the Broadway for Harris rally on October 14, appearing on stage in a “Greatest Showman”-like outfit. Over black sequined shorts, she wore a long sequined black tuxedo jacket with satin lapels and over-the-knee black leather boots.
As shown in the YouTube video, Hathaway addressed the crowd after the previous speaker, “I said, ‘Hi, I'm Annie and I'm a mom!’ ' I want to say that. And actually, my son Jonathan is here tonight. Hello, Johnny! And for those of you who don't know, I'm voting for candidate Kamala. Anyone else voting for Ms. Kamala?”
After the crowd cheered loudly, the star quipped.
More seriously, she continued. 'It's very important to remember that America is a very big place and not everybody is set in stone. It's no wonder that passions are so intense, especially in an election like this.
“Still, we need to remember that we need to meet people where they are, especially when we are asking them to vote or soliciting them by phone. So I thought it might be a good idea to create a little space for undecided voters tonight and consider some of the questions they might be struggling with.”
Hathaway then sang Queen's “Somebody to Love,” which she first performed in the 2004 film “Enchanted.”
After singing the lyrics, “Someday I'll be free,” the actress said, “America, the day we must be free is November 5. America, we have a great choice to make. You must choose. You must vote.
The Devil Wears Prada star is the latest in a long list of celebrities to endorse Harris. Billy Irish and Phineas recently expressed their support for the Democratic ticket on social media:
Also, Aubrey Plaza, Stevie Nicks, Charlie XCX, Jane Fonda, Mindy Kaling, Pink, Michelle Obama, Anna Wintour, and of course Taylor Alison Swift, among many other celebrities who have endorsed Harris/Waltz.
