Dakota Johnson matches the suede bag trend with a fur jacket worthy of a mob wife.
Dakota Johnson showed off her apparently mob-wife-coordinated winter coat for the first time while running errands in New York City on Monday (October 14), as the Madame Webb actor donned a wide-lapeled chocolate brown longline jacket that appeared to be made of mink or muskrat fur at a hotel left the hotel (it is still unclear if the fur is real or not). But if it happens to be her best faux fur, it is an imitation that looks very expensive, reminiscent of affordable yet sophisticated options from A.L.C. and Apparis.
Star dressed up her statement outerwear by styling it with light wash straight leg jeans, a hunter green crewneck sweatshirt, and black platform ankle boots with exposed silver zippers from The Row dressed down.
Johnson also used the outing to officially endorse the suede bag trend with a large brown suede hobo bag from The Row. Her tote bag has sold out, but the brand is still offering a smaller version. If you're looking for something more laid-back, Coach's Brooklyn bag in cedar suede has a similar vibe. [This comes after designers such as Isabel Marant, Altuzarra, Miu Miu, and Ralph Lauren featured suede bags in their 2024 collections. One example: Jennifer Lopez, who was one of the first to embrace the trend, used the bag twice in September. First with a $48,000 brown suede Birkin Grizzly 25, and then a week later with a brown suede Bottega Veneta Andiamo Tote.
To my delight, the famously private star topped off her long brunette hair with a New York Mets baseball cap before Monday night's win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The win may have been thanks to Johnson. She finished the look with gold-rimmed sunglasses and small gold stud earrings.
The finished outfit feels like a major departure for Johnson, who generally avoids trends and favors a minimalist, lifeless aesthetic. However, there is a lesson in street style in the way she balances the luxurious fur coat with classic denim and sporty accessories. Very Princess Diana, don't you think?
