Princess Kate Releases Personal Message to Commemorate Baby Loss Awareness Week
Kate Middleton shared an emotional message on Instagram on Tuesday, October 15, in a rare personal post in honor of Baby Loss Awareness Week.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss,” the Princess of Wales captioned her post. She shared an image of a candle from British brand Plum & Ashby, whose white label read “Waves of Light.”
The event marks the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, as families are encouraged to light candles on October 15 in honor of families who have experienced baby loss. The Crown Princess of the United Kingdom received the candles during a visit to the child bereavement charity Tommy's in 2020. According to Plum & Ashby, 100% of the profits from the £32 candles support “research that saves babies' lives.”
“Sending love, strength and hope to all affected. #WaveofLight “and the royal concluded the post, signing it with her initials, ‘C’.
The princess also shared several Instagram posts from Tommies and Child Beavement UK in honor of the “Wave of Light.”
In 2020, the Princess visited Tommies to learn about the charity's work to reduce the rate of stillbirths and miscarriages and to meet with families affected by the loss of a child.
The royal couple has commemorated Baby Loss Awareness Week in previous years, and in 2022 they wrote on Instagram, “On this #BabyLossAwarenessWeek, we take time to think about all those affected by pregnancy and baby loss. There are organizations and resources on this thread offering support and advice to families and loved ones who need it most.”
Tuesday's touching social media post follows last week's emotional appearance by the Crown Princess, who is still recovering from cancer, with her husband, Prince William, to meet the families of three British children who were stabbed to death during a dance class in July.
