Raven-Symoné admits that “That's So Raven” took steps to make her “look thinner”

Raven-Symoné admitted that the producers of her early 2000s Disney Channel cult show “That's So Raven” took steps to make her “look thinner.”

The star attended a roundtable with E! News to promote her new game show “Scrabble,” and one of the reporters told her: “This new book, you know, you guys did this kind of episode about body positivity, but, you actually have headlines because you say that CGId was thin. Is that true?”

The actress replied, “No, I don't think so. This was before CGI. Back when they were stretching film. Yeah, yeah, I remember there were conversations that made me look thinner.”

The book in question is Disney High: The Untold Story of the Rise and Fall of Disney Channel's Tween Empire by Ashley Spencer, a survey of the world of Disney's famous child stars.

The book tells the story of an episode from the show's second season in which Raven tries to lose weight for a runway show but ends up walking around looking exactly the same, with an ending that celebrates body diversity.

However, according to sources who spoke to Spencer, network executives asked her to modify Raven-Symoné's footage to make her appear thinner in body-positive scenes.

Producer Michael Feldman told Spencer (via E! News), “It was embarrassing. I don't know how they could look at themselves and do that. The very thing she wanted to write about was literally done to her. I'm still shocked that they were that tone-deaf.”

“Disney High” publications include a documentary on Nickelodeon, Quiet on Set: Demi Lovato's documentary Child Star, with Raven Simonet.

Asked if he would let his children follow the path he did, Raven-Symoné told E! “I would never let my children go into the entertainment industry before the age of 17. They should enjoy anonymity first, take a few classes, and then get serious about it.”
