Jennifer Lawrence Announces Pregnancy, Expecting Second Child with Husband Cook Maloney

Jennifer Lawrence is pregnant!

On Sunday, October 20, the Oscar-winning actress' representative confirmed to Vogue magazine that Lawrence is expecting her second child with husband Cook Maloney.

As the magazine noted, on Saturday, October 19, Lawrence showed off her new baby bump while enjoying dinner in Los Angeles, wearing a La Ligne T-shirt and sweater.

Actress Lawrence is the proud mom of 2-year-old son Cy, whom she shares with husband Maloney, a director of a renowned art gallery; the two “I do” at the Belcourt mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, in October 2019.

The news comes as Lawrence prepares for the premiere of his new documentary, Zurawski v Texas, which details the harsh realities of the post-abortion world in Texas, where abortion is banned with very few exceptions. It is somewhat fitting that Lawrence broke the news of her pregnancy alongside the promotion of the film, which is a reversal of the anti-abortion stereotype. [Maisie Crowe, who directed the film, which is executive produced by Lawrence and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told Deadline, “We are not only releasing the film theatrically in traditional markets like New York and Los Angeles, but in locations all over Texas, We felt it was important to help Texans understand what the abortion ban actually means.”

In an interview for a Vogue cover story in 2022, Lawrence spoke about the intersection of motherhood and abortion rights and how her life has personally changed since she became a parent.

“I'm very afraid to talk about motherhood. Because it's different for everyone. If I say I was great from the beginning, some people will feel bad because they think it wasn't great for me at first,” she told the magazine at the time. 'Fortunately, I have a lot of honest girlfriends. Fortunately, I have a lot of honest girlfriends. We may not hook up right away. I may not fall in love right away. So I felt ready to be forgiving. I remember walking with one of my best friends when she was 9 months old. But that never happened. Maybe I will love him as much as I love my cat.”

Lawrence then spoke about her family's politics and how her reaction to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and her own personal reproductive consequences, including multiple miscarriages, affect her politics today.

“I've worked so hard over the last five years to forgive and understand my father and my family: it's different. The information they are getting is different. Their lives are different. 'I've tried to get over it, but I really can't. I can't get over it. I can't fuck with non-political people anymore. You live in the United States of America. You have to be political. It's too miserable. Politics kills.”

Lawrence “miscarried alone in Montreal” in her early twenties before receiving abortion care. During the filming of Don't Look Up, she had another miscarriage and had to undergo a D&C.
