King Charles and Queen Camilla take 'rest day' during royal tour of Australia
King Charles and Queen Camilla take time to rest during their whirlwind royal tour of Australia and Samoa.
On the second day of the high-profile royal couple's royal trip, King Charles and Queen Camilla reportedly took a much-needed “day of rest” after their official (and warm) welcome.
Hello! reports, “Their Majesties decided to take a ‘rest day’ during their six-day high-profile trip.”
“This may be to get used to the time difference and recharge their batteries ahead of their hectic schedule.
“We had to think about how we could ensure that Their Majesties' energies were kept in top shape, as they are on any visit,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson previously told the magazine.
“There was hope earlier this year that Their Majesties could visit New Zealand. On the advice of doctors and after close consultation with the Australian and New Zealand governments, that was not possible. Difficult decisions had to be made about the program with the Australian government regarding where Their Majesties would visit.”
The royal visits to Australia and Samoa will be Prince Charles' first official visits to Australia and Samoa since the coronation of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, after her death.
It is also his most significant trip since announcing in February that he had been diagnosed with unspecified cancer.
As previously reported, Prince Charles has suspended chemotherapy during the whirlwind royal events and is instead traveling with two doctors who are reportedly closely monitoring the royal family's health.
On Sunday, October 20, Prince Charles and Queen Camilla attended a service at St. Thomas' Anglican Church in Sydney, Australia. During the visit, the King signed the country's first official Bible and joint prayer book, according to the Daily Mail.
The Bible was signed by all members of the royal family who have made official visits to Australia, including Queen Elizabeth and the late Princess Diana. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Charles signed the religious text “on the page below the signature of the late Princess of Wales.”
While attending the service and signing the book, Prince Charles commented that he seemed jet-lagged and tired.
According to the Daily Mail, the King reportedly joked, “What day is it today?” referring to the long flight to Sydney.
