Laura Tan's new Coach It bag is... Made from old Coach it bags

Every fashion girl has experienced it: although we hear rumors of instant-it accessories like Coach's Brooklyn bag, our consciousness tells us that it's better for the planet if we don't necessarily buy new things. Laura Tan, the star of the movie “The Summer I Went Pretty,” is one such fashion girl and a member of Generation Z. Whether Generation Z is called the “sustainability generation” or ignores the needs of the environment to shop fast fashion depends on the survey cited. Tung, who told us via email that she tries to make sustainability a priority, has her own solution to the shopping dilemma.

Laura Tan is the new face of the Alter/Ego collection, the latest addition to Coach's “Coachtopia” brand. all five silhouettes are made from leather scraps from the manufacturing process of Coach's best-selling Tabby, Hampton, and Brooklyn bags, and are designed in the East-West and West-West styles. In the campaign images shot by C. Printz, Tung's Coachtopia bags look 100% new, but have a carbon footprint reduced by 59-68%.

“The Wasted Parts,” as Coachtopia calls this lineup of campaigns, allows Tung to explore the tension between the two previously mentioned. Like all of us, Tung has been one or the other at various times in his personal style journey.

In the styling of the campaign, “Coach girls are sophisticated and stylish, carrying black tabby bags that feel timeless,” Tung explains.

“The Coachtopia girl has a more casual style, a carefree, creative energy, which is reflected in the up-crafted leather jacket and bright colors she wears.”

Coachtopia's Alter/Ego collection speaks to the truth that more sustainable shopping doesn't happen overnight. There are always ways to be a better, more sustainable shopper.” I continue to learn about sustainable fashion and brands and try to find new ways to incorporate sustainability into my fashion choices.”

Off the set, Tung says the key to making more environmentally conscious choices is to “choose wisely. For her, it's like going to the local flea market to buy a used jacket, or, at times, trading in a brand-new bag for one made of old materials and defying gravity with a photo shoot using them.

Like the shirt she wears in the Coachtopia campaign: using waste is good taste.
