Billie Eilish says she regrets talking about her sexuality.
Billie Eilish made headlines in 2023 when she told Variety magazine that she was “physically attracted to women,” sparking much discussion about the singer's love life and sexuality. And this month, Eilish, who will be Vogue's cover girl for the November 2024 issue, said she plans to keep her future love life under wraps.
“I don't want anyone to know about my sexuality or my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” the ‘Birds of a Feather’ singer told Vogue in a wide-ranging interview, adding, ”And I hope that never happens again.”
After her remarks to Variety, the pop star told another reporter for the magazine that she was unaware that she was coming out by making the statement. But “wasn't it kind of obvious?” I kind of thought it was,” Eilish said. I didn't think people knew. But then I saw the article and I was like, 'Oh, I came out today. Okay, cool."
However, Eilish told Vogue, ”I'm never talking about my sexuality again. I'll never talk about who I'm dating or who I'm going out with again.”
Eilish admitted in the November cover story that she has “a past of being too open and honest,” but she seems to be dialing it back in the future. She told Vogue, “I also think I underestimate that what I said would be blown out of proportion by the biggest news story in the whole world.”
Dating aside, Eilish, who is currently on tour in North America through December, said she has struggled with life on the road. She said, “There have been some really dark times on tour.”
The “What Was I Made For” singer admitted that she used to view her tour as “kind of sucky, like it's nothing. Because it would end”. However, she now realizes that going on tour is a big part of being an artist and “really, it's the rest of my life.”
“I didn't think touring was going to be fun,” said Eilish, speaking candidly about her struggle with depression. 'I was very lonely for many years. I just want to enjoy every day, not just the shows.”
Part of that, she said, is doing things for herself and “not being satisfied with just outside recognition.” She has recently been able to focus on hobbies like cooking ("Everyone says, 'You can cook! '” she revealed), and she told the magazine that she might even try her hand at acting. I really secretly like it,” she admitted to Vogue.
Meanwhile, she is busy working with Power the Polls to encourage her fans to participate in the upcoming election. Many of my fans will be able to vote for the first time,” she told Vogue.”
As for her thoughts on the candidates, she made her decision clear: “I'm very excited about this. 'First woman president,' that's really great. I want to feel safe as a woman in my own country.'
