Prince Charles and Melania Trump are pen pals, apparently.
Much has been written about Donald and Melania Trump's visit to the United Kingdom when they were hosts of The Apprentice and still presidents of the United States. In her new memoir, Melania shares a new episode about her interactions with the royal family, suggesting that she is practically pen pals with Prince Charles himself.
After reportedly visiting the UK in 2018 and keeping the Queen waiting, Donald and Melania returned the following year to spend more time with the royal family.
“Donald and I hosted an intimate dinner at the U.S. Ambassador's residence in honor of Prince Charles and the Duchess (Camilla) - a perfect representation of the enduring bond between our two countries,” Melania wrote (via Vanity Fair).
She continued. “Despite the turbulent backdrop of British politics at the time surrounding Brexit and the change of Prime Minister's office, the Queen and her family gave us a warm welcome and treated us with the utmost hospitality.”
Melania also paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth on her account, writing, “As we bid farewell to Her Majesty the Queen, we cordially invite her to return to the United States.” The former model continued, “She expressed her gratitude with a warm smile. Sadly, Her Majesty could not visit us again before her death in 2022.”
Perhaps most notably, Melania referred to her ongoing correspondence with King Charles, stating, “Our friendship with the royal family continues, and I still correspond with King Charles to this day.”
Melania's visits to the UK in 2018 and 2019 were not the only times she met King Charles. In her memoir, the former first lady revealed that she actually met King Charles at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in November 2005.
“Our paths crossed in New York many years ago,” Melania wrote. This time we had an interesting conversation about his deep-seated commitment to environmental protection.”
So, while their friendship may seem unlikely, Charles and Melania have apparently written letters to each other.
