Why Football Stars Refuse to Attend BBQ with King Charles
King Charles is preparing for his first international tour since being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, visiting Samoa and Australia from October 18-26. The King and Queen Kamila will meet people from all over Oceania, including attending an Aussie barbecue.
Craig Foster, a 55-year-old retired professional soccer (soccer) player, revealed that he has been invited by Australian MP Chris Minns and his wife Anna to a barbecue with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
“Thanks, Anna and Chris,” Foster wrote on Instagram. 'But no thanks.'
The sports analyst continued, “Looking forward to hooking up with the first Aussie head of state. As a nation, it's time to put our big pants on.”
Foster's remarks were in reference to King Charles' role as head of state, and the former soccer player and many other Australians have expressed their desire for Australia to move away from a constitutional monarchy and become a republic.
While many commenters supported the sports star's post, others noted that it was “a bit hypocritical” for him to receive Australia's AM award, the equivalent of an honor bestowed by the British royal family.11]
Another fan suggested that Foster should go to a BBQ to speak his mind in person, suggesting that he should go to the BBQ and write the following. 'While I believe that we should break ties with the British monarchy and that it is time for Australia to become a republic, I also believe that you should put on your big boy pants, accept this invitation, attend this event, and discuss your views where possible and appropriate, with the utmost respect. ”
.
According to Buckingham Palace, the event will feature plenty of local food and will include discussions on “cultural enhancement” with representatives from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
While Foster will not meet the King and Queen Camilla, the royal couple will spend 11 days in Australia and Samoa. The trip will include stops at the War Memorial, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, and Sydney's iconic harbor.
Queen Kamila will focus on her passion projects, including attending a forum on family violence and a workshop for children participating in the Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition. The King and Queen will then head to Samoa to attend the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (and perhaps attend a local dance).
As for Foster, I have a feeling the royal family won't let him have a hamburger.
