Princess Kate and Prince William were united in their first public appearance since completing chemotherapy, right down to their color-coordinated outfits.

In a surprise appearance on World Mental Health Day, October 10, Princess Kate and Prince William on Thursday met with the families of three girls who were killed in a tragic knife attack during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England over the summer. In addition to speaking with the parents of the victims, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, Bebe King, 6, and Alice DaSilva Aguiar, 9, they also sat with paramedics and Rian Lucas, the dance teacher of the girls injured in the July incident.

Princess Catherine wore an Alexander McQueen double-breasted coat layered under a Merlot polka-dot pussy-ribbon dress from Whistles. Her dress is several years old and no longer available, but the brand still offers a similar style in the same print. She paired it with a brown suede clutch bag from Emmy London, brown pumps, and gold leaf earrings from Catherine Zoraida. Of course, this is not the first time the mother of three has embraced the burgundy trend for fall 2024. Earlier this month, she wore the Laurent Mouret single-breasted suit (which she wore on a December 2022 trip to Boston) again for a meeting with 16-year-old photographer Liz Hutton.

Prince William complemented Kate's seasonal color palette with a deep cherry red sweater and tie layered under a charcoal gray blazer, navy blue pants, and brown suede shoes.

Oxblood made its long-awaited return last month on the fall 2024 runway and was featured heavily in collections by Saint Laurent, Caite, Ferragamo, and Victoria Beckham. The juicy black cherry hue was also featured for Gucci and Bottega Veneta on the Spring 2024 runway, overtaking bright red as the designer's favorite hyper-fixation. Celebrities like Lily Collins and Kinta Branson have worn matching sets of mulled wine on their press tours for “Emily in Paris” and “Abbott Elementary,” respectively.

The exact credit for Princess Kate's incorporation of this look was not available at press time. Even without knowing the name on the tag, its sophisticated nature is consistent with the tone of her rare appearances throughout 2024, from June's Trooping the Color to last week's private meeting. The royal still favors tailoring, seasonal colors, and occasional quotes from her personal archives. Whatever her attire, it is a pleasure to have her back.
