Zendaya styling a $4,100 Loewe bag with a basic sweater and sneakers

A good designer bag carries all the essentials and extra fashion cred. A good designer tote bag can make even the most basic sweater and sneakers look like a runway moment. Zendaya and her Loewe bags are endorsed by fashion editors.

On October 10, the long-awaited “Hibike! Euphonium” Season 3, Zendaya took time out from her preparations to stroll through Los Feliz, California, wearing the wardrobe essentials that any self-respecting fashion girl would have hanging in her closet. A ribbed gray sweater was layered over relaxed black pants that could easily pass for track pants. (Miles away from the red carpet and Paris Fashion Week, she put her Louboutin pump collection to rest and wore trendy On sneakers instead.

These three elements, in my opinion, are the building blocks of a chic, basic outfit. Zendaya then went the extra mile, slinging a Loewe squeeze bag over her shoulder. Clearly, she's looking at Marie Claire's Fall 2024 bag trend report: since its debut in Loewe's Fall 2023 collection, the cushioned handle and curved silhouette have become an insider's favorite.

The outfit may feel like history repeating itself for Zendaya's devoted fans. Earlier this month, in between working with her image architect Lo Roach on looks for Paris Fashion Week and the Olympics, Z traveled to New York with the very same Loewe bag slung over her shoulder. It's the same burgundy leather and gold charms she's known for on the runway, and just the right size to hold the essentials for getting to and from the fashion capital of the world. (She definitely carries a tube of bright red lipstick.)

The Challengers star is not often spotted in basic sweater and sneaker mode. Most recently, she attended the only Louis Vuitton show during Fashion Month, wearing a bubble skirt and a ladylike top handle bag over her arm. Before that, she attended a movie screening in the Big Apple in a Burberry gown and a Vuitton bubble dress.

Louis Vuitton is Zendaya's most used brand in her wardrobe, on and off, as she is an ambassador for the Maison. Over the summer, she carried several vintage Louis Vuitton bags and extended the partnership in playful directions, including wearing a custom gown by Nicolas Ghesquière on the Challengers press tour and on the pre-Olympic red carpet.

Loewe, on the other hand, is special to the actor. Creative Director Jonathan Anderson also designed costumes for the Challengers, including the iconic “I Told Ya” T-shirt that became a viral hit. During the shoot, Anderson introduced Zendaya to On sneakers, her first athletic wear partnership, and her new favorite tennis shoes.

Loewe bags became a frequent feature in Zendaya's wardrobe after the film was released. Friends support friends!

Even if Zendaya wasn't on first-name terms with the designer, Loewe's squeeze bag looks right at home in her closet.
