I never thought I would see Hilary Swank walk for Miu Miu at Paris Fashion Week, but as soon as she hit the runway, I had a gut reaction. The “Million Dollar Baby” star has been working steadily since the 1990s, but she has hardly been in the spotlight for the last five to ten years. It would be like seeing a long-lost friend on the other side of the subway platform who happens to have won two Oscars: ....... Of course, celebrity casting is the star of Fashion Month. For Miu Miu's Spring 2024 collection, queer pop star Troye Sivan walked the runway. Prior to that, the Fall 2023 show was opened by Mia Goss and closed by Emma Colin. The Italian fashion house has tapped FKA Twigs for the Spring 2023 catwalk. An affinity for young talent is at the core of Miu Miu's DNA. The decision to feature 50-year-old Swank for this season's presentation, along with 69-year-old Poor Things actor Willem Dafoe, makes this decision even more delicious.

In between the sporty-chic windbreaker trend looks, Swank took to the catwalk in a chocolate brown patent leather trench coat wrapped around not one, but three belts. Bubblegum pink patent leather slides were adorned with gray sock-like knit panels. Swank wore little makeup other than foundation, blush, and lip balm, reminiscent of 57-year-old model Pamela Anderson's “no makeup” days. Interestingly, Anderson showed her bare-faced privilege two years earlier at Paris Fashion Week in October 2023.

In any case, I am excited that master creative director Miuccia Prada has used her platform to powerfully launch the Hilary Swank Renaissance. Truly, her appearance at Paris Fashion Week could not have been more cleverly timed. Last week, Deadline reported that Swank has landed a recurring role in the third season of Yellowjackets and could become a regular in the fourth season if the show is renewed. The bad news is that season 3 has been delayed due to the strike and will not premiere on Showtime until next year, but her stunning runway debut will be more than enough to keep me happy until then.
