Princess Beatrice's newborn inherits unique royal title

Pregnant Princess Beatrice's three-year-old daughter Sienna may not be a princess like her mother, but the toddler and her new sibling, who will be born in the spring of 2025, turn out to be a charming secret aristocrat through her father's Italian lineage. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a successful real estate developer, brings more than business acumen to the family.

While most royal watchers focus on the Englishman, it turns out that Siena and Mappelli Mozzi's newest child has been given a special Italian courtesy title.

Edoardo's father confirmed this noble succession before their secret wedding in 2020. Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi told the Daily Mail, “Edoardo is the only male descendant who will carry the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife is automatically a countess, and any of their children will be counts or nobile donnas.”

Yes, that means that Princess Beatrice is actually a countess as well, adding a rather continental flair to the existing royal status.

“Our family celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1985 with uninterrupted written records,” the Count told the Daily Mail, adding, “We are the only family in Italy that has all the records from that period to the present day.”

Edo's father also, of course, owns a luxurious Italian estate called Villa Mapelli Mozzi, which Edo will one day inherit.

Buckingham Palace announced on October 1 that the couple is expecting their second child, adding, “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child in early spring.

Along with Siena, who was born in 2021, the couple is co-parenting Christopher Wolfe “Wolfie” Mapelli Mozzi, a son with the former Dara Juan.

The Palace continued, “His Majesty the King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

Along with the royal family announcement, Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, and her mother, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, released an undated family photo to share their excitement over the new baby in the family. The Duchess wrote: “Watching you grow up as a mother is one of the greatest privileges of my life.”
