Bella Hadid shows off her effortless French girl staple style of trench coat and biker boots at Paris Fashion Week.
Bella Hadid shed her buckled bunny chaps and cowboy boots for an off-duty model ensemble that embraces the fall trend. On September 22, just before Paris Fashion Week, the model stepped out in the City of Lights wearing a brown trench coat, a staple in every French girl's closet.
Hadid stopped by Valentino's Paris showroom, and instead of wrapping her ankle-length coat tightly around her waist, she draped a duster over it, revealing a tight black T-shirt and matching black leggings underneath. Dare I say it, it's the high-low look every woman has worn at least once. The leggings kept her warm and cozy on chilly fall mornings, and the trench lent timeless sophistication to the laid-back look.
At first I thought Hadid was wearing a double-breasted Burberry trench. However, when I noticed the absence of Burberry's signature check pattern on the lining, I went back to my initial thought. I eventually discovered the jacket's provenance when I discovered that a new Yves Saint Laurent store was under construction in Paris, France, right next door to the Valentino showroom she had reportedly visited earlier in the day. I am now convinced that the trench is an oversized cotton serge trench by Saint Laurent. And I'm toughening up my classic aviators with black block-heeled biker boots from Miu Miu.
In Hadid's hand was a slouchy leather tote bag that I've seen carried by another celebrity, Brink Twice director Zoe Kravitz, this summer: this casually branded bag, which goes on sale worldwide on November 15 which will go on sale worldwide on November 15, seems to have been inspired by the French fashion house's archives from the mid-to-late 2000s. Designers such as Balenciaga, ChloƩ, and Valentino are dabbling in nostalgic styles from the archives and reprinting them.
This model is a black leather tote accented with a moody red nail polish. She also matched the bag with a pair of black Saint Laurent sunglasses.
If you can't wait for next month's Y bag launch, this look-alike from Mansur Gavriel will do just fine.
Of course, Hadid never does a preppy look without adding a little edge. The next day, September 23, she stopped by the Saint Laurent showroom and took a similar approach to styling her fall outwear. This time, she layered a black leather jacket with a beige mini dress, plus translucent tights and classic black boots.
Respectively, Hadid's first coat seems the most timeless of the two. If you're hesitant to invest in Hadid's $4,650 Saint Laurent version, there are equally attractive options available at all price points from brands like Barbour, Burberry, Cos, and Hommegirls. Hadid's stylist, Molly Dixon, would approve.
