Jennifer Lopez, flared jeans and fringed suede crossbody in 2013 style
Jennifer Lopez has infiltrated the archives. Stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Kendall Jenner, and Zendaya are eager to revive historic runway pieces, preferring precious vintage pieces from the 80s, 90s, and 00s over new designs.
However, J.Lo embraces fashion trends from an entirely different era, delving into fashion archives on Pinterest and Tumblr for inspiration. Her latest outfit leaves behind the trusty and rare Birkin bag while touching on some of the hottest trends of the early 2010s.
On Saturday, September 21, Lopez was spotted running errands in Beverly Hills wearing the 2013 “First Day of Fall” starter pack. She wore a pair of metallic studded round-toe Alaia boots and a chunky, ankle-length cardigan over a $59 Intimissimi top (she is a brand ambassador for Intimissimi).
From there, the “Let's Get Loud” singer added her first pair of medium-wash flared jeans in a decade, a complete throwback. Her accessories were nostalgic as well, including a pageboy hat and a burgundy fringe-trimmed cross-body bag. The outfit was quite a change of direction from the Revenge crop top and $29,000 Birkin bag of a few days earlier.
While many of these yesteryear trends have made great strides in recent years, Lopez's hat is one of the few 2000s styles that has yet to become mainstream. But not for lack of trying: earlier this year, Ariana Grade released her first single, “Eternal Sunshine,” and wore a pageboy cap in its music video.
It was a shocking choice at the time, but with J.Lo's endorsement, we'll soon be revisiting the best of 2013.
