Let's get naked.

Let's get naked.

The “no pants” trend has become as common as wearing pants on the runway. But few people stand in front of a mirror and decide, following Coco Chanel's famous rule, that pants are the thing to take off. While they may pass for a “go” in the frenzied dream looks on the fashion week circuit, naked dressing - small briefs, barely there tops, peek-a-boo sheer skirts, and even head-to-toe transparency ( items that make Carrie Bradshaw's striking “Naked Dressing” seem laughably modest) are not held to the same standards of acceptance in the real world.

Fashion is a celebration of self-expression, but not even boundless confidence can make a Haley Bieber-esque sheer lace catsuit office-worthy. And let's be honest - many grown women (hi, that's me, and probably you, too) don't necessarily want to take on the world in as little as lingerie.

The Summer 2025 runways have not fully embraced this feeling, but there are more subtle changes happening than ever before in nipped-in necklines and high-rise briefs. And a new take on the sketchy. The “naked shoe” is a minimalist trend, a stark contrast to last season's bold, maximalist accessories.

At Brandon Maxwell, where “nonchalance” was cited as a key inspiration in the designer's show notes, his flats were so delicate that squinting could barely detect the mesh as they disappeared down the runway. 90s s jelly flats, and gave the season a touch of sophistication. Tibi, on the other hand, featured more technical and voluminous garments, such as cape dresses and parachute pants. As a striking contrast, however, she styled light strappy shoes and transparent boots, creating an unexpected balance of structure and minimalism.

At the long-awaited New York show of the French house Alaïa at the Guggenheim, the famous ballerina flats were replaced by ladylike heels with high vamps and stilettos with toe straps and transparent wraps, and the brand's structured accompanied by prêt-à-porter. [Designers like Amina Muaddi and Gianvito Rossi are already exploring the barely-there shoe trend, but I predict more designers will follow suit. And it's only a matter of time before influential celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Gigi, and Bella Hadid are out and about in these shoes. (But even as the runways continue to push the boundaries of what constitutes an outfit, there are signs that designers are making room for a kind of quiet confidence in fashion, an embrace of minimalism without sacrificing style or attire.
