Nina Dobrev, Carolina Herrera's matching set is more than chic - it's a testament to her style reset

Nina Dobrev didn't just attend Carolina Herrera's Spring 2025 show at New York Fashion Week to see a parade of yellow florals reminiscent of 80s polka dots and Georgia O'Keeffe. The actress made her long-awaited fashion comeback when she appeared on the front row in a chic matching set designed by Maison and styled by Kate Young.

“To be honest and vulnerable, I've been kind of behind the scenes for the last four or five months. The “Vampire Diaries” star suffered a serious knee injury in a dirt bike accident in May. In the weeks since then, she has been diligently tracking her “baby steps” in the recovery process on social media.

Dobrev needed the strength to step back into the spotlight at Fashion Week, especially when wearing heels. However, returning to New York was always worth it. 'I was a little nervous because it was my first Fashion Week since my injury and my first time wearing high heels since the surgery. But I was also excited. After such a long recovery without doing anything, I miss fashion. I miss New York. I miss the excitement of Fashion Week.

Her comeback outfit had to meet two criteria: it had to be “chic and timeless. Easier said than done. These adjectives apply to many of the outfits Wes Gordon designed for Carolina Herrera. One was to be laid low for another event a few weeks later. The other was a set of matching skirts that graced the front row.

Dobrev's outfit began with a short black jacket featuring a shelf of white beaded flowers blooming along the neckline and exaggerated puff sleeves. Instead, she paired it with a matching mini-skirt with the same petal-like embellishment along the hem and a silver mini-bag. Says Dobrev, “It was very chic, yet edgy.”

And then there are the aforementioned heels. They are black with a pointed toe and more beading. Dobrev says the brand recommended the flat shoes. According to Dobrev, the brand recommended flats to her. (I thought I needed heels for this look, and I was worried,” Dobrev says. I was really nervous that I would fall.” Her stylist, Young, bought her a cane to support her as she walked to the front of the line.

Hairstylist Bridget Brager secured Dobrev's high-powered ponytail to better emphasize her earrings and the beads along her jacket, and makeup artist Patrick Ta completed her soft, romantic makeup After the show, Dobrev made her long-awaited appearance on the runway. She mingled with Karlie Kloss and Chloe Fineman, counted more than one polka-dot dress to request on a future red carpet, and got to know Gordon's mother, who sat next to her at the show. And he bonded with Gordon's mother, who sat next to him at the show.

“Luckily, no mishaps, everything went smoothly, and at the Carolina show, as you might say, I unveiled my new knees.

She had plenty of time to think about this moment before it finally arrived. Now that Dobrev has had a successful first show, she is ready for an even bigger fashion reset. I feel like I'm ready to up my game and be more selective and conscious,” she says. I used to 'go with the flow' a lot, but now I want to be more specific and intentional about what I wear,” she explains.

Months of physical therapy, comfortable clothing, and recovery efforts have brought about a radical change in Dobrev. A transformation, if you will. She says, “And now I'm excited to flap my wings like a butterfly from my little cocoon and find my style identity.”

The transformation could start with one small matching set and expand in all directions. For now, Dobrev says, “I am very excited to be back in town and back on my feet, literally.”
