Yay, Katy Cats: Katy Perry has won the 2024 VMA Video Vanguard Award. At least, that will be the case by the end of the evening. Prior to her performance and acceptance speech, Katy Perry showed off her first look of the night on the black carpet. Baring her abdomen and sporting a club rat coded Who Decides War two-piece set, it consisted of a bra top and skirt made from seemingly tattered rags. Her wet-looking hair and sweaty, greasy skin complimented her style. It's a little dirty, and I think I like it,” she said. Perry appeared on the carpet with her husband, Orlando Bloom, in a contrasting black suit.

The Video Vanguard Award is the highest honor an artist can receive at an awards ceremony. With her gold-plated Moon Person, Katy Perry joins a list of previous winners dating back to 1984, including Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Missy Elliott. The first Video Vanguard Award went to David Bowie, The Beatles, and director Richard Lester. Perry is in good company, needless to say.

Perry wore little jewelry except for a chrome cuff around his arm and a QR code tattoo on his lower back. Matte brown eyeshadow and a matte peach lip balanced out the otherwise super-shiny look.

Tonight's appearance was Perry's first VMA appearance since 2017, when she made her mark on the award's history by performing the dual roles of performer and host. Perry wore nine different looks throughout the evening, each more gorgeous than the next.

First, Perry took to the blue carpet in a sculptural white column gown by Stephane Rolland.

Perry took to the stage in a holographic space suit and immediately got down to the business of hosting.

After a brief break to air Taylor Swift's new music video, Perry reappeared in a silver semi-sheer jumpsuit; in a sketch featuring DJ Khaled and a baby doll, Perry wore a blue sheath dress with purple feathers around the neck . Perry also wowed the crowd in a black sequin dress covered with statement gold earrings and gold tiger stripes. [Pin-straight bleach blonde with a fuchsia sequin strapless dress by Halpern. Perry was dressed in a strapless dress with a colorful bird feather design. Finally, Perry closed the show wearing a basketball-inspired bustier over a white T-shirt dress with gold fringe.
