Sabrina Carpenter makes out with an alien during her “Short n' Sweet” medley at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
Sabrina Carpenter brought her best-selling album “Short n' Sweet” into the stratosphere during her 2024 MTV VMA performance. The pop star performed a medley of her recent hits “Espresso,” “Please Please,” and “Taste” on a space-themed stage, incorporating MTV's classic alien theme into a sexy performance that also included references to hit music videos.
Dressed in a glittery white romper, Carpenter began her set with “Please Please Please” and sang the ballad's chorus while suspended several feet above the audience. Her trapeze almost touched the outstretched hand of the giant astronaut balloon, as if she were sitting among the stars
.
Once offstage, the pop star transitioned into “Taste,” a three-person dance performance featuring herself, a male moonperson dancer, and a female alien. Carpenter threw the alien off the stage and made out with the alien, just as she did in the music video for the single with Jenna Ortega.
The medley ended with “Espresso,” in which dozens of dancers in space suits joined Carpenter on stage for her Marilyn Monroe male chorus. She also ended her performance with a coquettish pose, reclining against all the moonlings while being lifted up by them. [Last year, she performed “Feather” and “Nonsense” from her 2022 album Emails I Can't Send at the VMA pre-show.
Carpenter's 2024 MTV VMA appearance comes at the end of a career-changing summer for the former Disney star, who scored her first #1 with “Please Please Please Please” and hit #1 on the Billboard 200 with “Short and Sweet.”
She was nominated in seven categories at this year's ceremony, including Song of the Year for “Espresso,” Song of the Summer for “Please Please Please Please,” and Artist of the Year.
On the red carpet, she looked angelic in a shiny white corset dress, an archival design by Bob Mackie, following in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe. She added a touch of Old Hollywood with her glossy ombré lips and voluminous curly hair.
