Katie Holmes Remixes Controversial Fall Barrel Leg Denim Trend with Surprising New Color
One thing about Katie Holmes is that she knows what she likes. The actor has her own unique attire, and she adheres to a few basic outfits at all costs. She's got a button-up shirt (partially buttoned, of course), comfortable Khaite flats, and her favorite denim of the week.
She wears this combination everywhere from movie screenings to leisurely walks around Brooklyn (one of which I witnessed just last week). This morning was another example.
On September 13, Holmes was photographed running errands in New York City. The “Dawson's Creek” native was wearing a poplin button-down with blue stripes over baggy barrel jeans.
This exaggerated pants style, featuring a rounded, almost bow-legged silhouette, has been dividing the Internet for months. Ugly? Chic?” No one seems to have found a definitive answer yet, except Katie Holmes.
She's been photographed in this style so many times that it's likely to become her favorite fall trend. Barrel jeans are usually worn in a light or medium wash, but she has recently been favoring a faded black wash.
Last month, Holmes wore a pair of look-alike jeans to a screening of the film Pieces of April. The pair featured a more saturated coloring, but had the same bubbly look. She and stylist Bree Welch paired them with a silk blouse and kitten-heeled mules for a dressier take on the casual-cool pants style.
Hate to be a hater, but it seems unlikely that this quirky trend will go away anytime soon. And if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Buy similar barrel-leg denim first.
