I have learned a lot about my body and style in my nearly 29 years on this earth. High-waisted is the perfect pant length for my pear-like hourglass figure, and black is a flattering color. One day I heard a man working in a high-end menswear boutique on the Lower East Side tell a colleague that wearing color is no fun. I don't agree with him, but it's an interesting hill to die on.

This learning led me to wear the same thing almost every day. A slim-fitting black T-shirt and a pair of high-waisted black slacks. One might call this a “uniform,” or a tried-and-true “clothing recipe. I call it “stagehand chic. Not because it's comfortable, but because you don't have to think or have an opinion before you wear it. You can wear a monochrome black ensemble with confidence. Basic, yet somehow stylish (especially with the right shoes).
