Nicole Kidman shows off her “Stepford Wives” character in a 1950s-style LBD at the Venice Film Festival.
Before “tradwife” had its own hashtag and dedicated aesthetic, “The Stepford Wives” was the blueprint for housewife style. [In the 2004 comedy thriller, Nicole Kidman played Joanna Everhart, a well-paid executive who moves to the suburbs. The Stepford Wives embodied the style of the 1950s, with big hair, long skirts, and unnaturally high heels.”
On August 30 at the Venice International Film Festival, Kidman attended a photo call for her latest film, Babygirl. Wearing a fitted A-line dress with puff sleeves and a tea-length skirt, Kidman walked the red carpet in style, 50s style to be exact.
Kidman's Bottega Veneta gown was the perfect homage to her former character, clean and neat, in an all-black colorway (the shade of choice for metropolitan girlbosses). She paired it with white heeled mules, also by Bottega Veneta, and $5,640 diamond earrings by Roberto Coin.
