Dua Lipa test drives the burn jacket trend that everyone will be wearing this fall
Dua Lipa is always on vacation and always seems to pull off the look. (This year, her summer wardrobe is full of patterned bikinis, mesh accessories, and monochrome black outfits. August is almost over, but that hasn't stopped Lipa's travel rush. And as the weather cools, she's adding cozy fall 2024 trends to her suitcase.
Lipa took to Instagram to share 20 slides (!) featuring the Fall 2024 It Jacket in a photo carousel from her latest jet trip. In the lead image, Lipa is wearing a slightly oversized dark olive barn jacket with large front pockets and the style's signature black collar.
She layered the jacket over an unconventional athletic meets collegiate outfit of athletic shorts, sweater vest, and button-up shirt. The accessories were functional and perfect for the windy, rocky beach. Hunter rain boots with black rubber knee-highs and a blue dad cap with “Winona” written on it. This look neatly fits Dua Lipa's street style, which is filled with “cool girl” business cards, aesthetic mash-ups, and outfits that embrace the “wrong shoe theory.”
The workwear craze began around 2018, fizzled a bit with the pandemic, and rekindled last year and into 2024. Barn jackets began appearing this spring, and searches for classic Carhartt jackets jumped 410%, ranking fifth on Lyst's list of hottest products of the first quarter.
Celebrities quickly jumped on board as well. Katie Holmes was spotted wearing a striped barn jacket on an errand in New York City, and Kendall Jenner tried the trend as a festival outfit.
Barn jackets have been widely seen on modern heritage brands like J. Crew, Barbour, Toteme, Everlane, and Alex Mill, and have appeared on Prada and Fendi runways. Dua Lipa may not have been the first to jump on the burn jacket trend, but one look at her and everyone will want to join in.
