Meghan Markle tours Colombia in trendy tailored vest

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Colombian tour has officially begun, and so have major fashion moments.

On the first official day of their four-day trip, the duo's first in South America, Meghan Markle embraced the tailored vest trend. The Duchess of Sussex began her much-anticipated visit to Bogota, Colombia, wearing sleeveless suits that dominated collections from independent labels (like Attersee) to global luxury brands (like Max Mara). Markle specifically opted for a tailored vest and coordinating pants by California-based label Veronica Beard. Prince Harry joined her in a dark suit and blue button-down by Brioni, and Harper's Bazaar was the first to publish photos of the look, shot by photographer Erin Charbonneau for the Sussex couple's charitable foundation, Archewell.

Shortly thereafter, Meghan Markle changed into her second Columbia Tour outfit, a Johanna Ortiz cutout dress. Before that, however, she paired the slim-fit suit with Manolo Blahnik pumps and an all-white Loro Piana bag. The crisp hue of the white manicure and bag is a celebrity-favorite styling choice. On the jewelry front, the American Riviera Orchard founder incorporated a touch of light blue into her look with stud earrings by Pippa Small and an Evil Eye bracelet by Lorraine Schwartz.

The navy blue suit accomplishes two fashion goals at once: it sets a businesslike tone for the start of Markle's visit and echoes the quietly luxurious Ralph Lauren separates she wore in a CBS Sunday Morning interview earlier this month. It also shows Markle's fashion savvy, since sleeveless suits are a big trend in workwear this year.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry toured abroad twice this year. Both showed off the former's signature skill of using fashion to tell a cohesive story and engage in style diplomacy; when Markle visited Canada in February to train for the Invictus Games, she chose a winter coat that had both Canadian and American brand connections. He also topped off several outfits with a beanie from Aritzia, a Canadian brand he has worn repeatedly since his days filming “Suits.”

In May, after reports broke that Meghan Markle had hired stylist Jamie Mizrahi, she traveled to Nigeria for three days to show off her meaningful wardrobe. She began her visit in a peach-colored maxi dress by Heidi Merrick, continued her engagement in a summer piece by Johanna Ortiz and St. Agni, and made the thoughtful choice to rewear a yellow silk gown by Carolina Herrera that she had previously pulled on for her son Archie's birthday on Mother's Day

Markle was a member of the “family.

Markle's journey also explored Nigeria's roots through fashion. For one panel, she wore a red dress by Lagos-based designer Orire. The duchess explained to the crowd that the color was a deliberate departure from her quiet, upscale neutrals: “I immediately got the memo that I needed to wear more color so I could blend in with your fabulous fashion,” she said.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were officially invited by Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez for a four-day visit to the South American country. The tour will begin in the capital, Bogota, and will include stops in Cartagena and Cali, where Harper's Bazaar first reported that the couple will spend the week holding sessions with local leaders on digital literacy and attending events highlighting Colombian music, dance, and theater. They plan to attend events highlighting Colombian music, dance, and theater.

Markle's wardrobe and overall presence will be under pressure. Sources told OK! that the former royal wants to “prove that the royal family misses her” by shining on this trip. Her first look has already made fashion fans happy that she is back in the spotlight.
