Meghan Markle pays homage to Colombian designer with sleeveless two-piece set

On the third day of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's high-profile trip to Colombia, Meghan Markle paid homage to the Colombian designer in a breathtaking sleeveless two-piece set.

Hello! said the Duchess wore a dress by Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz.

A deep sea crop top with white horizontal stripes and narrow shoulder straps matches, especially when Markle toured Escuela Taller Tambores de Cabildo de la Boquilla, a drum school located in the northern city of Cartagena included a bodice overlay highlighting a halo sailor silk maxi skirt.

Video of the royal couple arriving and Markle wearing an Ortiz dress was published on X, formerly known as Twitter, where the two were reportedly surrounded by tight security.

According to Prince Harry and Markle's official website, the school is “dedicated to preserving cultural traditions and instilling pride in its young students, offering a variety of programs beyond drumming.”

Markle also wore an Ortiz masterpiece on the first day of the couple's visit to the country, demonstrating not only his fashion skills but also his diplomatic skills.

While attending a performance at the National Arts Center in Bogota, Markle wore a woven, cut-out midi dress by the Colombian designer. She paired the look with a stunning Cartier necklace, the same one she wore in a CBS Sunday Morning interview earlier this month.

She also wore several Cartier rings and a pair of Jimmy Choo sandals.

As Marie Claire previously reported, Markle has a history of “paying close attention to local designers” and wearing their work to show respect for the countries she visits and their cultures.

Less well known is that Ortiz is one of the most sought-after designers to come out of Colombia; after launching his sustainability-focused label in 2003, he successfully partnered with global boutiques and gained international fame.

Nevertheless, the fashion designer has chosen to run a successful business in his native Colombia.

In addition to honoring Colombia's past, present, and future through Ortiz's work, Markle also pays tribute to the late Princess Diana by carefully choosing the accessories she will wear during her week-long trip.

The Duchess of Sussex was seen wearing a pair of Princess Diana's butterfly earrings while wearing a classic costume ceremony consisting of a blazer and button-up over black pants and Chanel ballet shoes.

As Marie Claire previously reported, the late Princess Diana, who died after a horrific car crash in Paris in August 1997, first wore the earrings during an official visit to Canada with then Prince Charles in 1986.

Merle wore the earrings when visiting her kindergarten students, which was also, in a sense, a casual tribute to her late mother-in-law. It is well known that Princess Diana was a kindergarten teacher before becoming a royal.

Meghan Markle's Columbia outfit will no doubt continue to give meaning to the royal couple as they continue their tour of the country.
