Rihanna Attends Barbados Carnival Almost Naked, Covered in Crystals

Carnival is Rihanna's Met Gala. Even when she misses the first Monday in May, as she did this year, for example, "Diamonds" singer Rihanna shows up for the annual festivities in her native Barbados. Like the Met Gala, Rihanna is always the most anticipated attendee at this event, known for its extravagant custom-made costumes.

While the Met Gala typically features multiple layers of comfortable fabric from head to toe (often accompanied by a long, dramatic train), Rihanna's look at the Crop Over Festival is notorious for being racy.

Her carnival ensembles are often adorned with rainbow-colored feathers (a hallmark of the festival) and hundreds of sparkling crystals. This year, she kept that tradition alive by wearing a custom-made lingerie set made of yellow, topaz, and light pink gemstones to the Grand Caduceus Parade on August 5.

Artfully crafted to fit her exact measurements, the sparkling design curved like a snake up both legs, around her waist, and over her chest and shoulders. She wore a matching headpiece and wings the color of a Barbados sunset, and Gianvito Rossi metallic sandals that looked like golden vines.

This marked Rihanna's return to the Crop Over Festival after a five-year absence. She last attended in 2019, wearing a textured mini-dress covered in baby pink feathers and her hair styled in a bantu knot.

The star always adheres to the traditional feather and rhinestone dress code, but she always mixes up the color story. Two years prior to the all-pink ensemble, in 2017, Star attended in neon pink and a shade that would later become known as brat green. She wore a pink rhinestone bra with fringed statement shoulders and matching wings, paired with a contrasting mermaid blue wig.

In 2015, however, her color palette favored dark and moody. Her feathers were black and teal, and her bra featured iridescent black stones with an oiled finish. Two years earlier, she wore a shiny all-white look.

No one dresses like Rihanna, whether at a carnival or the Met Gala.
