Simone Biles and Jordan Childs Put an Olympic Twist on the Micro Shorts Trend
Fashion is cyclical. There's the resurgence of low-rise jeans, the trend of layering pants over skirts, statement T-shirts, and more. And now, Team USA gymnasts Simone Biles and Jordan Childs are bringing back another 2000s trend: mini shorts with embroidered letters on the butt. Surely you remember them from early Juicy Couture and Sof. (1]
In an Instagram post on Monday, August 5, Biles and Childs posed on the balcony of a Parisian mansion in the Olympic Village, wearing red lifeguard-style hot pants with white trim on both thighs and "TEAM USA" on the back. Biles wore a black sports bra and Childs a white sports bra to complete the retro athletic look. Both athletes wore their hair in a top bun.
"Red, white, biles&chiles ❤️," Biles captioned the post. Last week, the two posed together on the balcony for another twin moment, wearing identical bathrobes branded with the American flag and Olympic rings.
Biles and Childs won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's floor gymnastics final, while Brazil's Rebecca Andrade won gold. These three athletes made history by becoming the first gymnasts in the Olympics to make the podium in a gymnastics competition composed entirely of blacks.
Celebrities have also embraced the athletic shorts trend this summer. Hailey Bieber is always dressing up her Fila shorts and Alo micro shorts with leather jackets and sophisticated accessories. Jennifer Lawrence wore a cross between boxer shorts and running shorts on several occasions. [Medals or no medals, here are a few mini shorts to close out the summer season.
