If you type "Skirt over pants" into Google, common questions are "Can I wear a skirt over pants?" or "Is a dress over pants in style?" and so on. These questions have been asked repeatedly over the years, but the answers vary widely from period to period.

In 2003, for example, this combination was at its height of fashion and was considered a red carpet staple (especially for Disney Channel audiences). Since then, the combination has become something of a taboo, dividing fashion lovers into two camps: absolutely love it and absolutely hate it.

Both sides have their merits. When styled poorly, the skirt/pants combination can quickly go awry, but when done well, it can be a real fashion statement. During a promotional trip to New York City for Season 3 of "Industry," the star gave an informal lesson in technique, showing off the right way to wear a skirt and pants over it. She began with her favorite statement piece for summer 2024: a simple black midi skirt. The ankle-length hemline and voluminous silhouette had an innate femininity to it, which she further accentuated with a cable-knit cardigan and ballet flats.

From there she added checked pants that hit a few inches below the longline skirt. The similar length, in contrast to the miniskirt and long pants combination, gave the outfit a cohesive and streamlined look.

Michala effectively made this look "co-core," finishing it off with burgundy glasses and Miu Miu's famous Arcadi bag.
