Katie Holmes doubles down on the butter yellow trend with a relaxed T-shirt and Madewell bag
Katie Holmes' fashion is consistent. The actress' off-duty wardrobe consists of timeless basics such as baseball caps and button-downs, which she styles with a new sense of style (plus a smattering of denim trends). A recent addition to her rotation is the butter yellow trend
.
The shade continues to appear in Holmes' street style looks, most recently on July 30, when she was photographed strolling in a butter yellow T-shirt, jeans, and her favorite Madewell bag.
It's typical Katie Holmes errand wear. A loose-fitting buttercup top is worn with high-waisted, slightly baggy, medium-wash jeans. On her feet, she chose chunky black and white sneakers, accessorized with oversized tortoiseshell cat-eye sunglasses and a large brown leather Madewell tote bag.
We've seen versions of this outfit before. Last month, Holmes wore a butter yellow T-shirt, white wide-leg jeans, black ballet flats, and a brown leather-trimmed canvas weekender bag for a weekend getaway. The same week, butter yellow made another appearance when she wore a silky butter yellow slip dress by Lisa Yang on her way to dinner in Manhattan.
It's no surprise that Holmes was ahead of the fashion cycle. Her first recorded butter yellow moment of the year was back in April, when she was spotted in a teddy textured butter yellow crewneck sweater and Mary Janes.
When Marie Claire spoke with trend forecasters earlier this year, she called butter yellow one of the six color trends for spring 2024 (see also "glacier blue" and "apricot crush").
"Yellow is a great way to bring sunshine into your wardrobe," Shopbop fashion director Caroline Maguire told Marie Claire. It's a great way to bring some sunshine to your wardrobe," Caroline Maguire, Fashion Director at Shopbop, told Marie Claire. Brands such as Altuzarra, Bottega Veneta, Loewe, and Jacquemus have incorporated buttery topcoats, midi dresses, and rompers. Maguire added, "Ulla Johnson and 3.1 Phillip Lim were also strong fans of this shade."
Other celebrities are also obsessed with the color: Jennifer Lawrence can't stop wearing buttery yellow shackets, and Dakota Johnson tried on a buttery sheer Gucci skirt. Meanwhile, Haley Bieber's baby shower naked dress was margarine, as were her nails.
