With the birth of Cardi B's third baby, another era of celebrity maternity style has begun.

On Thursday, August 1, Cardi B announced her third pregnancy, hours after reports emerged that she was divorcing husband Offset. Her double unveiling post included a photo of the star relaxing on a Manhattan balcony, wearing a dramatic red gown that exposed her pregnant belly (at press time, credit for her look was not immediately available). The piece featured a high neckline cut out into a sweeping drape that hugged the bottom of her belly. She layered a fire-engine red fur coat over it.

Cardi B continued the red theme with pointed-toe pumps peeking out from under her gown. Regardless of who designed and styled the look, this color was a strong choice for her presentation. Red is not a gender-associated color like pink or blue, but a color that conveys power, as does the movement to share pregnancy and divorce in the space of three hours. (It is also one of the shades that, like Ferragamo, has dominated the runways in recent seasons.)

The "I Like It" rapper made an emotional statement below her rooftop photo, alluding to her third child and the end of her marriage. 'With every end comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you. You have given me more love, more life, and most of all, more power over me," Cardi B said. 'You reminded me that I never have to choose between life, love, or passion!' Cardi B. said.

Cardi B's maternity wear arrived after a series of appearances in New York. Last month, she attended Marc Jacobs' Fall 2024 show in a floral mini-dress that looked like a giant bouquet. Her front-row seat was preceded by another big piece of news from the star: she was to front Marc Jacobs' campaign, which was announced the same day as her pregnancy announcement.

In a dripping crimson gown and over-the-top red coat, Cardi B became the latest celebrity to push the boundaries of maternity style. Hailey Bieber spent her pregnancy wearing everything from a butter yellow naked dress to a lace catsuit. These days, anything can be maternity wear.
