Suki Waterhouse takes on Princess Diana's most iconic formal dress

On July 24, Suki Waterhouse enjoyed a royal fantasy by recreating Princess Diana's classic outfit. The star posted a video on TikTok showing off a cream-colored version of the iconic pink gown Princess Diana wore in Kyoto circa 1986.

The original gown was created by Zandra Rose, a top designer for wealthy British clients. After turning down Rose's wedding dress, Princess Diana visited that designer's store again and chose a black dress to remake into pink for another occasion. The dress became one of Princess Diana's statement pieces for her official visit to Japan that same year.

Of working with Princess Diana, Rhodes told The Times earlier this month, “You put this dress over your arm, you are ushered into the palace, you bow, and you bump into a child's toy.”

Suki Waterhouse's 2024 dress is nearly identical to Diana's legendary pink dress, with beading, layered tulle, a sheer cape with a zigzag hem, a thick ribbon belt, and a drop waist, but she has used a golden off-white hue to She remade it in a golden off-white hue. Waterhouse captioned the video, “A cream version, but still a princess.”

The singer is not the first celebrity to draw inspiration from the popular style of princesses. Just last month, Cardi B paid tribute to Princess Di in an oversized Harvard crewneck, gray biker shorts, big black sunglasses, white Nike Air Jordan 5s, and of course, a pixie cut.

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner are also known fans of the loose sweatshirt and spandex shorts combo. We have seen similar big sweatshirt and small shorts looks from Emily Ratakowski, Hailey Bieber, Taylor Swift, and others. But it's hard to replicate Princess Diana's formal look. Hats off to Suki Waterhouse.
