St. Lab's First Perfume Makes Body Mist Trend Personal

This is the year of the resurgence of trends from the early 00s. While belly button piercings and low-rise jeans are back in vogue, lightweight body mists are being used by more than just the youth of Bath & Body Works; according to CNN, a video tagged “best body spray” has been viewed over 34 million times on TikTok this year It has received more than 34 million views on TikTok. From Sol de Janeiro to Tom Ford, adult brands are developing their own ways to be both airy and fragrant.

Personalization-driven startup Scent Lab is also getting into the body mist game after launching its award-winning candles in 2022 (and raising new funding earlier this spring). But there is a difference: these scents are taking the guesswork out of how to layer perfume, or even perfume mist, in the name of creating a distinctive scent.

Scent Lab's first lineup of what the brand calls “perfume mists” ranges from Cheeky Rose (with rose, pink pepper, lychee, and blonde wood) to Lemon Fizz (a blend of lemon, bergamot, palo santo, and sheer musk), The series consists of six fragrances. All series are non-toxic, long-lasting, and can be customized with a $10 “potion” bottle of your choice. (Each mist has an additional spout for easy pouring.)

“We wanted to create a scent that our customers could wear alone and it would still be a complex scent on its own, which is perfectly fine,” says Ariana Silvestro, CEO of Cent Lab. (Ironically, she got her start as manager of Bath & Body Works.) ) “But these mists can also be layered with scents to create some really nice custom potions.

Body mist collectors who want to DIY can order any (or all) of the six scents and pour them into a potion bottle as they wish. For perfume novices, however, St. Labs offers nine “home run” recommended potion bundles that include two mists (in a 50-50 ratio) or one mist plus another.

According to Ari Kriegsman, chief marketing officer of St. Labs, these mix-and-match fragrances are a response to the 34 million TikTok views of the scent mixes, as well as a natural next step for the business He says. Already, people are mixing and matching fragrances to “enjoy a different and unique scent every day. They are building up their scent wardrobes, from luxury perfumes to mass-market mists,” she explains. These sets formalize that process.”

No one needs to follow St. Lab's scent instructions. This means that there are almost infinite variations, depending on the aromas you order and how they are blended. This is a complex proposition. While it is fun to play perfumer from the comfort of your own home, wouldn't it be better to leave the scent development and blending to the professionals for better, more reliable fragrance results?

Brand founders say that these mists are formulated to avoid undesirable results. Says Silvestro, “We worked really long and hard with the fragrance houses to ensure that these endless combinations are basically dummies.” [Our perfume mist is a 12 percent fragrance blend that we designed with the fragrance house. If you mix five of these together, it should smell amazing,” the CEO explains. The CEO explains.
