Selena Gomez's “Orange Julius” manicure may be my favorite of the jelly nail trend!
Selena Gomez never fails to provide beauty inspiration. Of course, there's also the fact that she has an entire makeup line. (By the way, the editors of Marie Claire just tested Rare Beauty's new True to Myself Tinted Pressed Finishing Powder.) She is also my secret source for endless manicure ideas.
The actress of “Only Murderers in the Building,” who just received her first Emmy nomination, frequently collaborates with nail artist Tom Bacik on everything from classic red and bubble bath nails to intricate illustrated designs. But the duo's latest collaboration, which they dubbed “Orange Julius Vibes,” may be my favorite.
Bacic shared a snap of Gomez's latest manicure on Instagram. First and foremost, it's neon color. Orange is a bold choice, but according to celebrity nail artist Jenny Bui, “neon is making a comeback - especially in the summer.”
The nail finish also deserves attention. The translucent glaze should look familiar. This is clearly a nod to the jelly nail trend that took root in the early 1980s. And like belly button piercings and low-rise jeans, jelly nails have also returned to our orbit.
This trend is surprisingly easy to execute: all you need is a manicure in a semi-sheer shade and a glossy topcoat. Thankfully, there is no shortage of great orange nail polishes.
If orange isn't your thing, don't worry. A quick scroll through Bacik's Instagram page will provide endless inspiration. Gorgeous baby pink and white combinations (aka bubble bath nails), blue-red, and tangerine (she really likes orange). He even shared the shades of nail polish he uses to get the job done. Selena Gomez-approved best colors are as follows.
