America's Sweethearts Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders" Season 2: Everything We Know

Netflix's new sports documentary "America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders" gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the NFL dance team's 2023 season Cheer and Last Created by Chance U's Greg Whitley, this seven-episode series follows elite dancers from across the country as they prepare for preseason auditions and playoffs and open up about their lives and daily experiences as part of the franchise.

Since the show landed on major streaming services on June 20, countless viewers have been hooked on the world of DCC, from the high-octane routines ("Thunderstruck" is now stuck in all our heads) to the implicit intricacies of the million-dollar organization I'm hooked.

Of course, many new fans are also wondering if the show, and arguably one of the best documentaries of the year, will follow the team back for another season. Netflix has not indicated whether "America's Sweethearts" will have a second season, but it would not be the first time the streamer's sports documentary has returned. Several similar Netflix shows (many of which were also produced by Whiteley) have been renewed after hit first seasons. The most direct comparison is 2020's Cheer, directed by Whiteley and returning for a second season two years after the first became a pop culture phenomenon; the DCC dancers have already appeared in Today, and according to Variety magazine, the doc was watched in its first week for 687 million minutes were viewed. As of now, we can only hope that this similar popularity will lead to another renewal.

We'll have to wait and see what Netflix decides, but both Whiteley and the Dallas Cowboys franchise seem to be on board for a second season. The Cowboys' official website released a statement mentioning the possibility of a season two. Plans for a second season are currently undecided, but the Dallas Cowboys are excited about the response from the world in the early stages of the show's release.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety, the showrunner said he wanted to have more time with the team because he felt the producers were "just starting to get down to business" when filming ended.

"The last couple of weeks of filming were just starting to come into their own," he said.

"It's one of those things where the stakes are high in a place like Star, which is the most financially lucrative and valuable sports franchise in the world. They have a lot at stake, and it fosters a certain culture that can be very buttoned down and sometimes bump up against documentary film crews trying to push through it.

He continued, " When we were wrapping up, we felt like we were just starting to get there." "I want more time to see if I can get deeper and deeper with more teams."

In the final moments of Season 1 of America's Sweethearts, all of the current Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders on the show auditioned for the next season. They confirmed whether or not they planned to audition; many subjects promised to return, including 2023 rookies Reese Allman and Anna Kate Sandvold.

But not all are coming back; Victoria Kalina, a four-year veteran, decided not to return for a fifth year and recently moved to New York. Kelsey Wetterberg also retired after her fifth year. As Caroline Sandvold, Anna Kate's sister, said about life after graduation from DCC, she may return as an alumna of the team.

By the time "America's Sweethearts" aired on Netflix, DCC director Kelly Finglas and head choreographer Judy Trammell were already hard at work on this year's team audition cycle, and the DDC website said the bosses had their first rehearsal for this year's training camp the same day the documentary arrived on Netflix, and on June 26, the team's official Instagram page revealed the 2024 newcomer candidates. That announcement included two familiar faces: Charlie Barbee and Kelly Villares. The two did not make the team for the Dorcas Series, but it appears that they have now attended training camp for the second time.

The team also released a reel featuring the auditions of a number of veteran candidates. In this clip, both Reese and Anna Kate are also confirmed as attending training camp, but they are also promoting the series at the same time, doing double duty.
