Sarah Jessica Parker on the New Trend in Hybrid Shoes and... Sally Rooney's New Book?

Fans of "Sex and the City" and its spinoff, "And So On..." fans know that Carrie Bradshaw is a bona fide fashion girl. While filming the third season of AJLT in New York City, Sarah Jessica Parker showed that her most iconic character is also a literary darling. Not only was she photographed wearing this summer's trendy hybrid shoes, but Parker-Slash-Bradshaw was also spotted holding a copy of Sally Rooney's new (unreleased) book.

Let's start with a familiar fashion statement. Parker was spotted outside her brownstone apartment on Tuesday, July 2. The key to this look, then and now, is Maison Margiela's bright white, hybrid mary jane pumps. Parker paired these pumps with a semi-sheer long sleeve tee, also by Margiela, and a distressed denim skirt.

Between the first day of the shoot in June and this sighting, Parker did not change her outfit that much. She wore her hair down, no heavy makeup on her face, and unadorned hybrid Mary Jane heels. On her arm, she carried an unexpected accessory: a small gray kitten. (Plot details about the cat are undecided.)

Parker ran up and down the stairs of the set's townhouse, and in a market dominated by actual flat shoes and mary janes, it is no easy task to make towering shoes look as natural as slippers. Of course, Carrie Bradshaw is the last person to ditch heels altogether, whatever the zeitgeist.

The hybrid shoe trend is becoming a fixture in Parker's wardrobe, on and off. Last week, she wore a pair of ballet flats with a curved toe, a low pump heel, and a mary jane strap. A few days later, she wore a pair of single-strap mary jane heels for another "And So On..." scene was filmed. The heels had sparkly crystal straps that complemented her twist on the Capri pants trend.

Soaring Mary Jane heels with a kitten co-star are a tall order to pull off in one piece. Still, Parker's on-set look didn't end there. The real star of her accessory lineup was one that would make Kaia Gerber, known as a fashion bookworm, jealous: she was photographed holding Irish author Sally Rooney's fourth novel, Intermezzo.

Sally Rooney's novels are the It Girls of contemporary literature, the novels that flesh-and-blood It Girls love to read. More than just a bestseller, the blue and green cover of Normal People has become a street-style fixture for 2019, ahead of Hulu's soulful adaptation starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescall. in 2021, "Beautiful World,. Before "Where Are You" was released, early copies had become a trophy in cities like New York. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Emily Ratakowski, and the aforementioned Kaia Gerber have all endorsed Rooney's sparse prose and mercurial narrator in interviews.

The book Intermezzo, which Parker was holding on the set, is Rooney's fourth and highly anticipated book. It is also available for pre-order only to readers until its official release in September.

Dressing designers directly from the runway is something Parker has done many times before. (Reading the soon-to-be blockbuster book before its release is a new kind of insider for the star, and one that anyone with an active Goodreads account will envy.

Parker Slash-Bradshaw's summer reads won't be available for immediate purchase until September 24. But you can shop her equally covetable hybrid shoe trend from Pick Ahead and pre-order the book for the moment it finally becomes available to match.
