Kylie Jenner puts a surprisingly chic insect twist on the French manicure trend

My nail art preference is as basic as possible. If I'm feeling really wild, a geometric design might be nice. I never thought of getting an earthworm design on my index finger. But Kylie Jenner and celebrity nail artist Zora Ganzolicht have managed to make insect nail art, dare we say, the most glamorous summer nail trend.

Let me describe the scene: Jenner's nails are medium and almond-shaped. Very ordinary nails. However, she added a "summer garden" twist to each French tip, attaching tiny backyard bugs to the half-moon shape. Some of the bugs are cute, and are what you would expect from a summer manicure. Innocent bumblebees, ladybugs, and even a cute blue butterfly. Kylie's personal "favorite," however, is the "little worms," accompanied by snails and ants. The claws of the Splinter founder even have intricate drawings of beetles.

While insect nail art is definitely the star here, the background in which they are painted shows a major summer nail trend. Neon French manicures seem to be everywhere.

"I see the French manicure as a gift of nail design that continues to give nail art immortality," celebrity nail artist Miss Pop previously told Marie Claire when discussing the nail trends for summer 2024. 'Nail art is indestructible. It's easy to understand. We all expect to see highlighted nail tips."

She added, "I think it's going to be a big part of the nail art industry.

According to Cardi B's longtime nail artist, Jenny Bui, "Neon colors are making a comeback - especially this summer." Take a cue from Jenner and choose a bright yellow, or swipe on your favorite color: pink, blue, green, orange, etc. Experimentation is key.

Shop ahead for everything you need to recreate Jenner's unexpectedly chic nails (including tiny insect stickers for those who can't DIY the little critters).
