A front row regular, Anne Hathaway knows the summer accessory trends. Not only does she pay attention to what's trending on the runway, but she layers them effortlessly.

On June 13, the actress was spotted in New York City going all out on the current renaissance of charmed bags, inspired by the late singer, actress, and fashion inspiration Jane Birkin.

Birkin, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 76, arguably defined 70s chic female sexuality and inspired the highly coveted (and very expensive) line of rare Hermes bags. After the Hermès bag broke down, she infamously complained to Hermès chairman and head designer Jean-Louis Dumas that it was initially not large enough to carry all of her belongings. (5]

On one occasion, Birkin famously said: "I don't want to be like everybody else.

Hathaway took a page from Birkin at a dinner at celebrity hot spot Via Carota, accessorizing with an oversized navy bag adorned with what looked like a horse-shaped charm. The actress complemented her bag with a simple, chic soft blue pajama-style set and buckled mesh flats. (Exact credits for her outfit were not available at press time.)

Hathaway is the latest celebrity to adopt a minimalist summer uniform.

Most recently, Jennifer Lopez (known for her more glamorous outfits, such as her Schiaparelli Haute Couture custom-made dress at the Met Gala) was spotted walking the streets of Los Angeles wearing a simple white tank and baggy, high-waisted khaki pants. The toned-down look was completed with gold Jennifer Fisher Kevin huggie hoop earrings, gold aviator shades by Bottega Veneta, and $75 white K-SWISS Classic PF platform sneakers.

Peekaboo mesh flats are definitely a staple for laid-back summer outfits.

Hollywood heavyweights like Jennifer Lawrence, Dakota Johnson, and Dua Lipa have been spotted wearing mesh flats with their classic jeans and tees or on casual dates in Los Angeles, and shoes are often paired with.

While Hathaway has certainly been inspired by runway trends and fellow celebrities, one might say that her recent pajama-chic look was similarly inspired by her latest book, The Idea of You.

As Jezebel writer Kylie Cheung points out, Hathaway wears "half a dozen different gorgeous nightgowns" in the film, something Cheung says "feels impossible to do as a female protagonist or as a woman in general: She is stunningly beautiful, while still creating a realistic atmosphere.

"It's important to show that she has this unique style, which I feel like we all have," Jacqueline Demeterio, costume designer for The Idea of You, told Chang. If Hathaway was indeed playing a character from The Idea of You, then mission accomplished."
