"The 8 Show" Season 2: Everything We Know
Netflix's k-Drama 8 show is the latest not to be missed series, riding on the recent wave of brutal survivalist stories about what happens when human nature is pushed to sadistic extremes. Based on webtoons Money games and Pie games by Bae Jin-soo, the series follows eight people participating in a live-streaming show where they make money on a minute-by-minute basis. Fate can be made, but in order to continue the show, strangers must work together to entertain the mysterious figures to watch, by any means necessary. As the show reaches one violent extreme after another, and unnamed competitors turn to each other, things quickly go south.
Since the release of 5/17/8, the show has found a global fanbase, and it's no exaggeration to say that they're wondering if the series will solve many of its unanswered questions back. Read on to see what we know about possible Season 2, set to follow the shocking ending of Season 1.
When the disturbing show ended, it became clear that eight participants managed to keep going for more than two months and the society continued without even realizing they were gone. The protagonist, 3rd floor (Ryu Joon-yeol), returned to life with more than 1.5 billion won (about11.1 million), but struggled to readjust into the world. Eventually, they reunited with some of the participants to hold the funeral on the 1st floor (Bae Sung-woo), and the 2nd floor (Lee Joo-young), 4th floor (Lee Yul-yum) and 5th floor (Moon Jung-hee) appeared. As for the other former players, Floor 6 (Park Hye-joon) sends flowers, and Floor 8 (Chun Woo-hee) is in prison.
After the funeral, the group breaks up, seemingly never seeing each other again.
There's no cliffhanger, but the 8th Floor (Park Jeong-min), who works as a screenwriter, ends up in a very meta—mid・credit scene, and there's an eerie moment when a TV executive pretends he even passed the show and walked in with a big bucks based on a horrible ordeal to the financier, and he finally tells the story of what he's joking about. After the 7th floor lied and assured that it was fiction, the money man gave his full support and tied the series with a toast and fun line "
This line could be a subtle bargain in today's streaming model- or it could be a subtle bargain." 8. Why not both hiccups in the hope of show director Han Jie Lim.
Netflix doesn't indicate whether 8 shows will return, but it often takes months to decide whether to update even the biggest hits. (It took 4 months for the Squid Game Season 2 announcement to arrive. In terms of viewership, things look promising: The 8 show was Netflix's biggest non-English TV series in the first full week after its May 17 premiere, with more than 33 million hours watching just a week and a half since the episode fell. It has also reached the top 68 in 10 countries (including No. 1 in my home country, South Korea).
Season 8 of the show 1 ends with so many unanswered questions. There's never a hint of who created the show, and it's not clear who was watching or what the history of the show was. We also learn very little information about each player's identity — just enough to understand why they joined the show and how they finally broke up. This leaves with a ton of ground that could cover Season 2, and doesn't have a cliffhanger like the Squid Game of the thriller's predecessor, so it's easy to get a completely new cast
but there are hints about where the future season might go. Since the release of source materials, money games and pie games, author Bae Jin-soo has released the third story, an interesting game. It is currently released on the Korean comic platform Naver Webtoon.
According to a Korean-to-English translation, the summary describes Webtoon as "focusing on the main characters who have experienced failures in money games and pie games." The hero, who confirmed that he was the only one with gaming experience among all the participants, decided to become a demon to win."
8 If the show takes inspiration from the third webtoon for a possible season 2, viewers can follow the 3rd floor again, as he discovers the opportunity to re-enter the show—perhaps after blowing most of his winnings- and go through the ordeal with a new set of participants, and maybe a new Rules.
We also hope that Season 2 will shed light on who controls the peculiar, vicious show from the shadows.
