Zendaya Transforms from Off Tennis Basics to Spring Glamour in Less Than 24 Hours

For the fourth week in a row, Zendaya has embodied all things tennis in advance of her upcoming project, Challengers. From the literal representation on the court to the tributes to the sport's all-time greats, she and her stylist, Lo Roach, have done it all, or so fans thought.

Less than a week before the release of this highly anticipated film, Zendaya made a series of surprise appearances in New York City in less than 24 hours. And in her unexpected sightings, she embraced her inner tennis star at both ends of the style spectrum.

Z's first appearance was at a special movie premiere last night, Monday, April 22. As eager guests gathered for the private event at the AMC Theater in Kips Bay, Zendaya wowed the crowd in an understated outfit.

Her outfit for the evening included a key item from the Challengers' wardrobe: a gray "I Told Ya" graphic T-shirt worn by her character, Tashi Duncan. Co-star Josh O'Connor (who plays Patrick Zweig in the film) also wore the same T-shirt, which he wore to the April 10 London premiere.

Created by Jonathan Anderson, costume designer for the Challengers and creative director of Loewe, the T-shirt is a tribute to John F. Kennedy Jr. The late statesman Kennedy was the father of his dog and wife He wore a similar shirt on several occasions, including while playing Frisbee outside with Caroline Bessette Kennedy. The phrase is suspected to be related to the catchphrase "I Told You So" in red letters that his father, President John F. Kennedy, used on his inaugural button.

Zendaya wore a T-shirt, wide black pants, white pumps, and a brown trench coat. For the evening, she wore her freshly dyed honey blonde hair down in loose retro waves and glammed it up with light peach.

"When JFK Jr. was younger, in the '80s and '90s, there was a certain effortlessness to his wardrobe.

Zendaya's reference to JFK was not the only remark she made in New York. Early the next morning, Tuesday, April 23, the actress was seen heading indoors to film a segment for Good Morning America. Unlike last night's super relaxed look, she was dressed in a glamorous, spring-like outfit.

She wore a white midi dress from Erdem's Fall/Winter 2024 collection with green and white florals throughout. The actress trimmed the skirt slightly shorter, revealing the puffy tulle liner underneath. She paired it with matching white stilettos and wore her blonde hair down in a side part, loosely wavy.

After her talk show appearance, Zendaya changed into a vintage Thierry Mugler suit and coordinating Louboutin pumps. The neon tennis-ball suit and shoes made this the most court-like look of her stay in New York so far. As in previous looks, Zendaya accessorized with diamonds from Bulgari.

If there's one thing fans have learned from Zendaya and Lo Roach over the years, and as we've seen on the Dune press circuit before, this duo isn't done until they say they're done. This means that there may or may not be a few more Challenger-inspired looks for the release date, and fashion lovers are not complaining.
