Caitlin Clark Breaks Another Record with Reported $28 Million Nike Contract

One week after becoming the WNBA's No. 1 draft pick, Caitlin Clark is already on the verge of breaking a league record.

According to reports in The Athletic and the Wall Street Journal, Clark is about to sign an eight-year contract with Nike for $28 million, the most in WNBA player history.

If she signs the papers, she could design Nike's next It sneaker: Clark's contract also includes a signature shoe. Clark's contract also includes a signature shoe. She reportedly turned down a proposal to be the women's face of Nike's Kobe Bryant line instead.

The NCAA's highest-scoring player chose the brand to represent as the Indiana Fever's newest player; the WSJ and Athletic noted that Adidas, Puma, and Under Armour each offered Clark their own deals. None came anywhere close to the $28 million proposed by Nike. Under Armour was the runner-up with $16 million over four years.

Clark became a crowd favorite in last month's NCAA tournament, sinking three-pointer after three-pointer and drawing a record 18.9 million viewers for a women's championship game. Fans were outraged when they learned that Clark, who scored the highest points in both NCAA leagues last week, would make only $76,535 a year as a rookie in the WNBA. On the other hand, a first-round draft pick in the NBA can earn as much as $10 million.

The signing with Nike was not the only historic moment in Clark's burgeoning WNBA career in which fashion and sports merged. Clark, a two-time National Player of the Year, was dressed head-to-toe in Prada by stylist Adri Zgildea Toto during the 2024 draft.

"It's a first for Prada to dress an athlete for the draft, and it's a first for Caitlin, too. They're both cutting edge and just too perfect."
