Assisted by stylist Bree Welch, Katie Holmes has been experimenting with off-duty styles this spring, pairing sandals like Birkenstocks with a business-casual button-up and pants for a walk in Manhattan on Wednesday, April 17.

On a daytime errand in the city, Holmes tried the "wrong shoe theory" - matching contrasting shoes with outfits. She was photographed wearing an oversized blue button-up top, which she wore with long khaki pants in. Instead of ballet flats or trendy sneakers, she paired them with buckled slide sandals. (The exact credit for the "fit" of her street style has yet to be revealed, but her shoes look a lot like Birkenstocks.)

The shoes are also very similar to the Birkenstocks.

As for accessories, Holmes kept it fresh with a dainty gold necklace, brown oval sunglasses, and a black XXL tote bag.

In the past year alone, the 45-year-old has almost always followed a particular clothing formula, often subverting the fashion status quo by re-wearing favorite items. (The Dawson's Creek actress, however, is not afraid to experiment and add new items to her closet from time to time.

A few days ago, Holmes revamped her commuting style by opting for a new pair of sneakers. Instead of her favorite shoes, like the popular Adidas Samba, she wore the white Bode x Nike Astrograbber, which went on sale this week.

Holmes also put aside her comfortable silhouette and played with the denim trend. Last week, she embraced a top Spring 2024 trend by wearing Banana Republic's dark wash denim from head to toe. Her outfit of the day was a button-up vest and flared jeans.
