Parasite the Grey" Season 2: Everything We Know
Whether you are an avid fan of Korean entertainment or a horror fanatic looking for the next scary monster, "Parasite": Parasite: The Grey" is the next film you should watch. Directed by Yong Sang-ho of "Train to Busan" and "Hellbound" fame, Netflix's latest K-drama is set in the world of the iconic Japanese manga "Parasite" by Hitoshi Iwaki. The series follows Jeon Soo-in (Jeon Son-hye), an ordinary woman who must learn to live with parasites, and two men who must escape an elite military hunting party known as The Greys.
All six episodes of Parasyte: Parasyte were released on Netflix on April 5 and quickly climbed the Netflix Top 10 chart, with countless viewers being sucked into the brutal horror drama. Viewers who have already finished watching the series know that the final episode opens the door to the continuation of the story, with a special Easter egg hinting that the war between humans and parasites is just beginning. Here is what we know so far about a possible "Parasite" Season 2: The Grey Season 2
At the end of the six episodes of Parasyte: The Grey, the humans have won a major victory over the invading parasites. With the help of Heidi, a parasite in Suyin, the humans were able to stop the leader of the parasites from taking over Mayor Seoul's body. After Heidi proves her loyalty to the humans, Choi Joon-kyung (Lee Jung-hyun), the leader of Team Gray, decides not to arrest Su-in, and the human-parasite hybrid is free to rebuild his life. Meanwhile, former gang member Seol Gang-woo (Koo Gyo-hwan) joins Team Gray and helps them hunt parasites across Korea.
In the final scene, we meet a man named Shinichi Izumi (Masaki Sugata), who offers to help Joon-kyung and Team Gray exterminate the parasites. Shinichi is the protagonist of the original manga, which depicts him as a 17-year-old high school student who learns to live with a parasite that has failed to take over his brain and instead parasitizes only his right arm. Shinichi and Migi (a parasite named after the Japanese word for "right") quickly develop a bond as they work together to survive and fight for humanity.
Shinichi's appearance leaves the door open to many questions, especially given that the new live-action series is intended to be a sequel spin-off to the manga. If Team Gray accepts Shinichi's cooperation, they will be human/parasite hybrids, tracking down all the parasites hiding in Korea. Or, if Sooin/Heidi decides to join the fight again, it could be a two-man team. Of course, we will also have to see what new big villains our heroes will have to face in future episodes.
Netflix Still Has No Word on "Parasite:" Netflix has yet to say anything about whether a second season of "Parasite: The Grey" will be available, but that's probably because the series has only been available for a week now . Fans will have to keep an eye on the news over the next few months, as the streaming giant tends to look at ratings to determine whether or not to renew a show. Fortunately, horror K-dramas like "Sweet Home," "Death Penalty for All," and "Kyoseong Creature" have been renewed in the past: the chances of "The Grey" are high.
In fact, director Yong Sang-ho is already thinking about the plot of "Parasite: The Grey" season 2 already. In an interview with Korea's News1, director Yong revealed that he and actor Masaki Sugata discussed ideas for future storylines while filming a surprise cameo.
"That's not a matter for me to decide," the director said in response to a question about Season 2. He explained that "when I spoke with actor Masaki Sugata, we had an idea about the content behind it, and he came to me at some point to see if I could help him. I showed the scenario to actor Lee Jung-hyun (who plays Jung-kyung on Team Gray). If a Season 2 is produced, I can't give you any details, but you can be sure that Shinichi will make an appearance."
