Here's the double belt trend for spring.

Here's the double belt trend for spring.

One of Bella Hadid's most memorable street-style outfits: strolling through Tribeca two summers ago, the supermodel wore two belts simultaneously. One black belt with a silver buckle was fastened to the loops of her gray-washed jean pants, while the other, a contrasting gold belt (of no practical significance), was loosely fastened at the bottom. It was at this point that the double belt craze was born.

Since the model's two-belt moment in June 2022 was replicated that fall, fashion insiders have widely accepted the styling as Hadid's own aesthetic and as following her taste for impractical fashion trends. Before celebrities were leaving the house without pants or wearing UGG boots in earnest, Hadid was pinching slices of New York City styled in white microbriefs and shearling-lined slippers.

Like others, the ingenious and quirky micro trend of wearing two belts has blossomed into a styling trick for real people, not just megawatt street style stars. Fashion over function, but frivolous maximum accessories are in vogue.

And like a siren's call, Fall 2024 Fashion Month was a season filled with two-belt styling that all fell within the realm of real-world possibilities. At New York Fashion Week, Michael Kors presented maxi skirts and pants with two belts built into the waist. For Peter Doe's second collection as creative director of Helmut Lang, the Vietnamese designer draped a crossed double belt low on the waist of a workwear jumpsuit. [Across the Atlantic in London, JW Anderson's Fall 2024 collection wrapped turtleneck tops with wide khaki-colored belts. In Paris, Junya Watanabe presented a more avant-garde interpretation: the Japanese designer secured models' waists with multiple black leather belts, along with black turtlenecks and front pleated pants. On closer inspection, the look may not be as outlandish as it first seemed. [Stacking waist chains and cinched hips with multiple layers of leather belts have become common in street style for spring 2024. Earlier this year, Camila Mendes and Lucy Hale wore two belts built-in to a pleated skirt from Frankie Shoppe: it's only a matter of time before the double belt trend becomes a mainstream trend for 2024.

What was once considered a Hadid-only styling hack has now, against all odds, become a styling tip that appeals to the burgeoning masses. What follows is a roundup of multi-belt outfits that are a step or two outside of your comfort zone, but equally inspirational.
