Jennifer Lawrence turns neutral uniforms into butter yellow trend
Those who keep a close eye on Jennifer Lawrence's spring outfits expect a daily lesson in neutral color layering, not a tutorial on shirt layering that incorporates one of 2024's brightest color trends. (On a casual outing in New York City on April 10, Lawrence arranged a shirt sandwich (three contrasting tops layered on top of each other) to embrace the buttery yellow trend. Her base? A sun-kissed crew-neck T-shirt. In the middle, a navy button-up cardigan of unknown provenance. And to top it off, an olive-colored oversized trench coat from The Row.
A mood-enhancing pop of color wasn't enough. Lawrence also wore butter yellow in the form of Vans sneakers and a Polo Ralph Lauren shoulder bag. La Ligne straight-leg jeans, a black leather belt, and tinted sunglasses balanced out all the colors.
Lawrence's unexpected pop of color may have come from TikTok, the source of inspiration for the pocket-sized clothes: TikTok. The app is colored "butter yellow" throughout the video as a notable spring nail trend. This cheerful shade is equally prevalent offline and outside of beauty: after appearing on spring 2024 runways from Bottega Veneta to Carolina Herrera, Marie Claire editors and trend forecasters have named it one of the best shades of the season.
Even if these shades bloom like a freshly planted bed of daffodils, they are somewhat unexpected in Lawrence's wardrobe. Lawrence, who works with Jamie Mizrahi, Adele's stylist and more recently Meghan Markle's stylist, tends to favor neutral-on-neutral outfits. Gray and camel coats, white maxi skirts, and slouchy navy sweaters are her recurring favorites.
Nevertheless, pops of color are becoming more common in Lawrence's spring wardrobe; two days ago, she paired an emerald green cardigan from British knitwear brand &Daughter with track pants. When it comes to Lawrence's personal style, spring may truly be the season of renewal. May I suggest a glacial blue or pale lilac?
